Dancesport Places First in Formation Team Competition at Riverside
Saturday, April 14, 2012 On April 14, the UC San Diego Dancesport Team traveled to Riverside to compete in UC Riverside’s 9th annual Orange Blossom Ball. The competition started at 9 in the morning with American Smooth and International Standard. We had several dancers compete in both categories, and secure spots in the top 8. The afternoon began with American Rhythm and International Latin. In the Newcomer category in International Latin, dancers Chris Cheng and Michelle Zill took 1st place in Cha-Cha, 2nd place in Samba, and 3rd place in Rumba. In the Bronze category, Flynn Platt and Julia Layton took 3rd place in Cha-Cha, and 1st place in both Samba and Rumba. In the Silver Category, UC San Diego shined, taking the top 3 places in several dances. Hannah Wang and Eyal BenDavid took 1st place in Cha-Cha, Samba, Paso Doble, and Jive. Amy Casson and Mark Srethebhakti took 1st Place in Rumba, 2nd place in Cha-Cha, Paso Doble, and Jive, and 3rd Place in Samba. Julia Layton and Flynn Platt took 2nd place in Samba and Rumba, and 3rd place in Cha-Cha. The day finished with the Formation team competition. UC San Diego won first place with the Beatles medley and second place with the Indiana Jones medley.
